22 February 2024 – The migratory and refugee flows of Hellenism in Venice – Modern Greece as a host country
On 22 February, the Giannopoulou Schools visited the Hellenic Institute of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies in Venice. They were given a guided tour of the Institute’s premises, the Museum of Icons and the Church of St. George of the Greeks, where they were welcomed by His Eminence Metropolitan Polycarp of Italy and the President of the Greek Orthodox Community of Venice, Mr. Dimitrios Zafeiropoulos. Afterwards, they presented in the Sala di Capitolo their paper “The migratory and refugee flows of Hellenism in Venice – Modern Greece as a host country”. The students and their accompanying teachers were welcomed by the President of the Hellenic Institute. The event was addressed by the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Mrs. Sofia Voultepsi, the General Secretary of the Greek Institute for Migration and Asylum. Dr. Hercules Moskov, His Eminence the Metropolitan of Italy, the President of the Greek Orthodox Community of Venice, the Honorary Consul of Greece in Venice Dr. Bruno Bernardi and the academic advisor of the General Secretariat for Vulnerable Citizens Dr. Maria Papathanasiou. Subsequently, Deputy Minister Voultepsi toured the premises of the Hellenic Institute, was informed about its activities and signed the book of dignitaries.
